I took a picture of vending machines which are located near to my house.
There are a lot of vending machines and many kinds of it in Japan. Drink vending machine and tobacco vending machine is very popular in Japan. Except those two kinds of vending machine I found an egg vending machine and a battery vending machine. The reason is because I guess vending machine is very easy way to sell something. This fact shows how Japan is safer in terms of public peace than any other countries. There is no one in Japan who steals vending machine.

With the cigarette vending machines, is there any actual way to check the ID of who is buying them, or is it just a trust thing, in that the youth are trusted not to buy them, and the community is trusted to say something if a child does try to buy cigarettes?
Vending machines are an interesting subject in Japan. You can buy most anything from a vending machine - both good things and bad things. Lots of important issues are related to this subject as well: energy consumption, under-age buyers of alcohol, technology and convenience, etc. There are stories about these things in the news often.
I have seen many vending machines that have been vandalized and/or broken. Japan is not so safe anymore, even for vending machines.

There are a problem that youth buy cigarette by vending machine. Therefore, it is decided that we have to use ID card when we buy cigarette from June.
Shops which sell cigarette are not allowed to let youth buy it strictlly.
